     Your project... Our technical support

Helping you tackle your molding or casting challenge is our specialty. To best utilize our guidance we recommend that you first consider these basic "truths" of mold-making:

Mold Manifesto

Mold making and casting requires you to be part chemist. Don't forget that you are mixing chemicals and there are many variables and unknowns involved.

Molding and casting compounds are not typical consumer goods. Your results with resins and mold compounds will be directly proportional to your skill level and the effort you put in to learning the materials and process.

Experiment. Each project you undertake will require a certain amount of research and development. Be prepared to experiment and hone your process accordingly.

Maintain realistic expectations. There will be failures. As your skills improve your troubleshooting skills will increase also. Don't expect your first mold or cast to be perfect.

BITY Mold supply offers volumes of technical support, but that knowledge is useless without a basic understanding of this craft. Consider our knowledge and tech support as a supplement to the manufacturer's data sheets and instructions: not a replacement. Read everything you can relative to your project before you start.

There will be times where you will be attempting an application no one has ever tried before. Don't let that bother you. Experimenting with new techniques and materials will help you carve out your "niche" in the molding and casting market. Keep in mind that this is a trade and skill set that takes years to perfect. Even after years of mold-making and casting you will find that there is always a new challenge and a different technique to apply. If this state of perpetual technical challenge intrigues you, then mold making will prove to be a rewarding experience for you. If you find these elements of mold making somewhat daunting, fear not, you might just grow to like it. I personally became a mold maker as a means to an end (reproducing my art) and found that I enjoyed the mold making challenge as much, if not more, than sculpting itself.

Good luck and happy, accurate mold making!
